Solid Plastering, Wet Plastering, Float & Skim, Rough & Skim
Solid Plastering describes a technique that covers an entire wall in solid plaster, with no plasterboard underneath the skim coat. Instead, a rough coat of plaster is applied directly onto sealed brick or block walls before a plaster skim coat is applied directly onto the base coat.
The finished look is the same as all other techniques, but unlike a plasterboard wall, there is solid plaster right back to the brick wall.
Before the invention of plasterboard, solid plastering was the only plastering technique available. Many older houses have solid plastering and it’s one tradition that is so effective, we still use it today. There are many benefits of opting for this older plastering technique and from time to time our plasterers may advise this as the best method for your project.
